UAV Guidelines
This page is for informational purposes only and is not a legal document. Any individuals that wish to operate UAVs at CIRC are responsible for complying with all relevant Canadian laws and regulations in addition to the following:
Operational Guidelines

UAVs may only be operated under Canadian Special Flight Operations Certificates (SFOCs) registered in the Edmonton Flight Information Region (Edmonton FIR).

UAVs must be operated in accordance with all SFOC requirements, the guidelines of the Canadian Aeronautics Act (R.S.C., 1985, c. A-2), Canadian Aviation Regulations (SOR/96-433), and the Edmonton FIR best practices and UAV integration procedures. The latest revision of the above documents shall be applied.

The competition is held in the vicinity of the Drumheller Municipal airport as seen here. Therefore UAV operators must be authorized to operate within the vicinity of a class G mandatory frequency aerodrome.

UAV operations require explicit written permission from CIRC organizers as well as Midland Provincial Park and/or the Town of Drumheller, depending on the location.

Operators shall not contact Midland Provincial Park or the Town of Drumheller directly. All inquiries should be directed to CIRC organizers.

UAVs shall not be used to aid rover operators during competition tasks.
Documentation Requirements
Requests for UAV operation should include the following documentation:

Standard Operations Procedures conforming to Transport Canada standards

Proof of 3rd party liability insurance against any injury or damage arising from UAV operation.

Flight and maintenance logs for the aircraft to be flown at CIRC 2019.

Document detailing training and experience of the UAV operators.
